Job Opportunities and Applications
You must be a Colorado resident to apply for positions with the State of Colorado and the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR). If the Colorado residency requirement has been waived, it will be noted on the official announcement. Official Revenue announcements can be viewed on the Colorado State Government Classified Jobs website.
Read the announcements to learn more about each job, including its responsibilities and salary, and to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications/requirements of the job. The website lists job opportunities with the DOR and other Colorado State Agencies. Check the website often, since new job opportunities are posted as openings occur. The DOR only accepts applications for positions as they are announced. Unsolicited applications and/or resumes cannot be accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Q. |
How do I apply for a state job? |
| A. |
You must submit an application and any other documents specified in the announcement, by the closing date listed on the announcement, to apply for state jobs. The application must be in the Human Resource Office by 5:00 pm. on the closing date of the announcement, not just post-marked by then. Be sure to sign and date your application. The job announcement will state which application form to use and provide any other specific instructions in order to apply for that particular job. Typically, you will complete an Announced Vacancy application for the job in which you are interested and qualified. However, some state agencies have their own unique application and/or application process so be sure to follow instructions on the announcement! You must complete a separate application form and demographic information form for each job in which you are interested.
Once your application is received it will be reviewed to ensure you meet the minimum qualifications as announced. Correspondence regarding your application, exams, interviews, etc. may be sent to the mailing address or e-mail address indicated on your application.

| Q. |
Do you have any openings at this time? |
| A. |
If the Department of Revenue has any current jobs open to the public they will be posted on the Colorado State Government Classified Jobs website.
|
| Q. |
Where can I get a state application? |
| A. |
First, look on the job announcement to determine which application you need in order to apply for that particular job. The Announced Vacancy applications are available at all State Agencies, at all state Work Force Centers, and on the Colorado State Government Classified Jobs website. Both announcements and applications can be printed from the Internet. For announced jobs that require an application other than the standard Announced Vacancy application, you must contact that state agency to obtain that particular application.
|
| Q. |
Will you fax or mail me an application? |
| A. |
The Department of Revenue will be happy to fax or mail you an Announced Vacancy application. You can call and request an application at 303-866-3716. For announced jobs that require an application other than the standard Announced Vacancy application, you must contact that state agency to obtain that particular application.
|
| Q. |
Can I fax my completed application? |
| A. |
For most positions, the Department of Revenue will accept a faxed application. However, in some cases, if an exam is attached to the announcement we cannot accept faxed application materials and this will be clearly stated on the announcement. Read the "How to Apply" instructions on the announcement carefully to see if a faxed application is being accepted for the position for which you are applying.
If we are able to accept faxed applications, it will ONLY be for DOR jobs. For jobs with other state agencies you must contact that agency or follow the instructions on their announcement to see if a faxed application is acceptable and to get their fax number. The DOR fax number is 303-866-3718.

| Q. |
Where can I view "Open Competitive" announcements? |
| A. |
Open competitive (job announcements open to all state of Colorado residents) can be viewed at all Work Force Centers and on the Colorado State Government Classified Jobs website.
State Personnel rules require all agencies to place these types of announcements on the state's web site.

| Q. |
How do I find out how I did on the test? |
| A. |
You should receive notification of the outcome of the assessment process. Your notification typically includes information regarding your score and how you ranked in relation to other qualifying applicants. For additional information about the assessment process as it applies to your examination, you must write to the agency administering the exam. In your letter you will need to include the title of the job you applied for, the name of the test (if you know it), your social security number, and a return address. Once this is received, you will be provided with information regarding your performance on the exam. For example, on written multiple-choice exams, the additional information we can supply would be how many answers were possible and how many you answered correctly. Ranking is done on a bell curve for each applicant pool. Since your ranking and score (70 to 100 score) is based on the scores of everyone in the pool, it is possible to have a passing score with one group of applicants in one exam process and a failing score or different score and or rank with another.
