Citizens' Advocate

The Citizens’ Advocate Corps increases state government’s responsiveness to the concerns of the public. The Citizens’ Advocates serve as special representatives in state government to assist citizens navigate through state agencies. 

  

The Colorado Department of Revenue’s Citizens’ Advocate will assist with issues for divisions within the Department after a citizen has contacted the appropriate division but has additional concerns.

The Advocate researches each concern and contacts the division to assist with a resolution. The Advocate will work with the division and monitor the progress and outcome of the concern. The Advocate will address each matter promptly, but statutory limitations, jurisdictional boundaries, state policies and other factors may limit whether the case can be resolved.

 

To ensure there is no miscommunication, it is best to contact the Advocate in writing.   Please give the name of the citizen, contact information and a description of the concern including the information below, if it pertains to the concern.   

 

  • Business Tax: Name of the business, Colorado account number or FEIN. The Department issues sales tax and wage withholding licenses. If you have questions about business or trade name registrations contact the Secretary of State.    

 

  •  Individual Tax: Colorado account number or last four digits of the taxpayer’s social security number and the address used on the most recent tax return.

 

  • Driver License or Colorado ID: date of birth and ID or Driver License number

 

  • Title and Registration: make, model and VIN of the vehicle. If you have questions about license plates contact the county where the vehicle is registered. Click here to be directed to county contact information.

 

  • Complaints about an office location or employee: date, time and location and name of employee.
