Plug-in Electric Motor Vehicle Letter
The Department of Revenue’s Division of Motor Vehicles needed to obtain the information on plug-in electric vehicles in order to distribute decals before the effective date of the law on January 1, 2014. Delaying the request for information would have placed owners of plug-in vehicles at risk when utilizing plug-in stations after January 1, 2014 when they would be in violation of law for not having a visible decal required by the new law. Due to manufacturers not identifying plug-in electric vehicles in their Vehicle Identification Number or VIN and individual customers modifying existing vehicles to plug-in electric, the DMV has no way of determining which vehicles in the database are plug-in electric.
How may this affect you?
