Out of State Emissions Extensions
Please use the following process if your vehicle is out of state and you have an emissions test required in order to renew your Colorado tags.
STEP BY STEP OUT OF STATE RENEWAL PROCESS |

STEP 1 |
Download and complete Form DR 2376 Application for an Affidavit of Emissions Extension. |

STEP 2 |
Vehicle is located in a non-emissions area:
Download Form DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification Number.
This form must be completed and signed by out of state law enforcement, which includes military and campus police. |
Vehicle is located in an emissions testing area:
Obtain a passing out of state emissions test. |
STEP 3 |
Mail completed forms from Step 1 and Step 2, along with your payment and proof of insurance (if applicable), to your local Colorado county clerk's office. |

State Emissions Information
The following states do not have emissions testing: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
For states that do not have emissions testing, form DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification Number is required in place of a passing emissions test.
States not listed above require testing for some vehicles in some areas. Please check with your local out of state motor vehicle office to find out if emissions testing is required for your vehicle.
