CO Motor Vehicle Record Security and Alerts

CD with Padlock      With current security measures, such as digital fingerprinting, it is very unlikely someone else will obtain an instruction permit, driver's license, or identification card (ID) on your Colorado motor vehicle record.

Records are protected by federal and state privacy laws and are not accessible for credit purposes.  Placing an alert on your record or changing your personal identification number (PIN) will not stop or prevent credit fraud.

Please see the Personal Information or Documents Lost, Stolen, or Compromised page for more information.

Motor vehicle record alerts are only accessible to law enforcement and only serve to assist those who have been impersonated during traffic violations, accidents or arrests. Those victims are best protected when record alerts are limited only to these situations so they will have the necessary impact.  Prevention of further fraud cannot be guaranteed. You may periodically obtain your motor vehicle record from a driver's license office to check it for accuracy.  Please see the Identity Theft During Traffic Violations, Accidents, or Arrests page for more information.
