Automation Vehicle Identification
|
|
Colorado uses an automated vehicle identification clearance system designed to make clearing the state's ports more convenient. When your vehicle is weighed at one of Colorado's facilities a port officer will attempt to obtain the vehicle specific information by inserting the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the automated system as the truck is being weighed.
When the vehicle's information is accessible and vehicle has been weighed with no weight or safety concerns, the driver will be allowed to proceed. When the vehicle's information is not accessible, the driver |
will be required to weigh, park, and present all valid paperwork to the port officer.
Colorado has two options for correctly marking a vehicle:
Option 1: Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Option 2: Alpha Identifier
A departmentally issued alpha identifier combined with the unit number may be displayed in lieu of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This number shall be located on the passenger side of the vehicle and comply with the same requirements previously described.
