Occupational Licensing Information
Occupational License Renewal
If your Occupational License Badge will expire soon, a renewal application will be mailed to the mailing address we have on file - what you provided us at the time you applied. Please complete and sign the application, attach any documentation requested and mail the complete packett and correct fee to the MMED office at 455 Sherman Street, Suite 390, Denver, CO 80203 - DO NOT SEND CASH! Once your application is reviewed and your background check is complete, the Division will mail you a renewal sticker to place on your badge. This will extend your occupational license two years from the current date of expiration.
If your MAILING ADDRESS HAS CHANGED: it is your responsibility to notify the MMED in writing of your change of address - YOU can do this by letter or email. Please provide your name, badge numer, previous address and your new address, along with the date you moved. You may email this information to dor_mmedaddresschange@state.co.us. If you do not update your address and your renewal packet is returned to the MMED resulting in the expiration of your license you will be required to reapply and start over.
Walk-in Applicant Lottery
In order to alleviate security concerns and reduce the amount of time walk-in applicants spend waiting for an abandoned occupational license appointment, the MMED will no longer use the "First Come, First Served" system to determine which walk-in applicants will be accommodated on any given day. Beginning Monday, April 15th, the MMED will use a lottery system to determine who will be able to take advantage of any abandoned appointments.
- This will remove any incentive walk-in applicants have to arrive prior to 8:00AM -
Each day, Monday through Thursday, a lottery drawing will be held at 8:30AM. In order to be eligible for the drawing all participants must be present at 8:30AM, have a fully completed occupational license application - this includes the application form, all necessary supporting documents (such as court dispositions), photo id, proof of residency and the full application fee in either cash or check. The application form may be found on our forms page or you can click here for a Support Occupational License Application or here for a Key Occupational License Application.
All eligible applicants present at 8:30 AM will have the same opportunity to draw a numbered chip from a pool of chips equal to the number of applicants present that specific day - those applicants that pull a numbered chip will have the opportunity to take advantage of an abandoned appointment, those that did not pull a numbered chip will be asked to leave for the day and try again in the future. This will remove the need for walk-in applicants to arrive prior to 8:00 AM as EVERYONE present and eligible will be able to participate, regardless of when they arrived at the MMED office (located at 455 Sherman Street, Suite 390, Denver, CO 80203). Due to a lack of staff resources, NO One that did not pull a numbered chip will be accommodated
The MMED's use of the lottery system to determine who will receive an opportunity to take advantage of an abandoned appointment has removed any benefit to arriving early. We strongly encourage applicants not to arrive prior to 8:00 AM. However, if you choose to do so please be considerate of the security concerns of others and remain in your vehicle prior to 8:00 AM when the building opens for the day. The MMED is housed in a privately owned commercial building and therefore, applicants are not to approach or attempt to enter the building prior to 8:00 AM. DO NOT approach individuals arriving for work in the building and request that they allow you access into the building.
We are not currently accepting appointments for Occupational Support or Key background checks. If you have already have an appointment or hope to walk-in and take the appointment of someone that has abandoned their scheduled appointment be sure to bring your Completed Support or Key Occupational License Application, all necessary attachments and the full amount of the fee with you. Support badges cost $75 and Key badges cost $250 and must be paid for in cash or with a check – WE CANNOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.
All applicants, keep in mind that MMED staff cannot begin the process without a completed application form, any necessary attachments required by the application, and the full amount of the fee. Applications forms can be found the forms page of this web site.
