Dealer Wholesaler Procedures

Waterfall and Wildflowers

The examination question forms, manual and procedures are official documents of the State of Colorado.  Motor vehicle dealer and wholesaler applicants are required to score 100% on the Mastery Examination. Third parties that have been approved by the Dealer Board may administer this examination. Different mastery examination procedures apply to applicants for motor vehicle dealer, used motor vehicle dealer, wholesaler and wholesale auto auction licenses than salesperson applicants.

The following steps apply when a dealer or wholesaler applicant self-administers the exam. If a third party administers the exam, the applicant will follow the steps given by the administrator.

Step 1: The applicant must take the exam him or herself.

Step 2: The applicant must complete the "Name", "SSN" and "Date" information at the top of page 1 of the exam.

Step 3: The applicant must read the "Instruction" paragraph on page 1 of the exam.

Step 4: The applicant must use a black or blue ink pen.

Step 5: No one is allowed to provide any answers to the applicant. If more than one person is taking the exam at one time, the applicants may not share answers. An interpreter may help the applicant read and understand the questions but may not give the answers to the applicant.

Step 6: After the applicant has finished the examination; the applicant will fill out the required information on the Examination Affidavit and sign it. After the applicant has completed and signed the top portion of the Examination Affidavit, the applicant will mail the exam and affidavit to the Dealer Section along with the dealer's completed applications, bond and fee.

Step 7: The Dealer Section will grade the exam. The applicant will be contacted regarding the questions that were answered incorrectly and communicate with the applicant until the applicant scores 100% and confirms that he/she has mastered the knowledge of the dealer laws and regulations covered in the examination.

Note: If the applications, exam and affidavit are not complete and signed, they will be returned to the applicant.
