About HB12-1288

On August 8, 2012 HB12-1288 was enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado. HB12-1288 has a strong focus on long-term sustainability and eventual retirement of information technology systems, as well as increase in Governance and Security associated with projects and assets.


A collaboration effort was created in the form of a working group with representation from OIT and state agencies so as to ensure future compliance of the house bill. Some of the main objectives of the workgroup are:

  • Provide information and understanding of implementation of HB1288
    • Roles and responsibilities
    • Process flow
    • Definitions and standards


  • Collaborate on project intake process (what is to be done)


  • Collaborate on how OIT socializes HB1288 with departments
    • Understand departmental governance processes while contemplating integration with project intake process
    • Communication project intake process, definitions and standards
    • Understand how to improve processes going forward


The workgroup is focused on processes and procedures that will be used statewide. Currently the following agencies are participating: the Departments of Revenue, Personnel & Administration, Regulatory Agencies, Public Health and Environment. Natural Resources, Local Affairs, and Transportation, History Colorado, the Office of Information Technology. Group accomplishments will be posted on this site as soon as it passes the approval process.
