CDOT BEGINS ANOTHER AMERICAN RECOVERY & REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA) FUNDED PROJECT IN SAN LUIS VALLEY

Resurfacing on US 160 west of Del Norte

RIO GRANDE COUNTY - The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun a project to resurface a 3.3-mile stretch of US 160 west of Del Norte. The work is being paid for through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act and involves a pavement overlay (one inch of leveling course and two inches of new asphalt) between mile posts 197.7 (east of CR 17) and 201 (west of 1st Street).

"Thanks to funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act we can finally make significant improvements to US 160 west of Del Norte," Congressman John Salazar (CO-03) said. "I thank the hard work of the participants of the San Luis Valley Regional Planning Commission for recommending and prioritizing this stretch of US 160 for funding. These improvements will help our farmers and ranchers get to market, our communities to safely travel to and from work, and will welcome visitors traveling to the beautiful San Luis Valley."

The project has received ARRA funding in the amount of $2.1 million and was contracted to Elam Construction.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:  Throughout the duration of the project on US 160 (scheduled for completion by October 30), motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic from 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday (there will be no work this Friday, October 9, a state government furlough day).

For information on this project, the public may call (719) 480-1440. For information on other CDOT projects statewide, the public may log on to www.cotrip.org or call 511. Thank you for going Slow for the Cone Zone!

In all, Colorado will receive more than $400 million for transportation projects and $103 million for transit projects statewide.
