SAN MIGUEL COUNTY ARRA FUNDING AND PROJECTS

Based on the latest information available to the Governor’s Office. This report is not comprehensive because new Recovery Act awards are announced frequently. This does not include funds - including income tax cuts, increased COBRA benefits, increased funds to cover Medicaid services and others - that cannot be broken down by county.


 

COMMUNITY SERVICES / SAFETY NET: 

$113,045

 

Community Services Block grant to the Mexican American Development Association, which serves Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties, for poverty reduction and revitalization of low-income communities. Funds will assist citizens with a one-time payment to assist with rental or mortgage payments.

Extra 13 percent in food stamp benefits to about 200 people in San Juan County between April 1- October 31, 2009

Grant for the Child Care & Development Fund in San Miguel County.

Federal grant to the Telluride Foundation through the Strengthening Communities Fund Nonprofit Capacity Building Program. This grant will help local non-profit agencies work with communities to improve economic conditions.

 



 

PUBLIC SAFETY:

Federal grant to the Telluride Marshal's Department to hire one police officer for three years, through the Community Oriented Policing Services program.

Justice Assistance grant to the Town of Telluride Marshal's Office to replace current stand-alone Records Management System with Spillman RMS.

Justice Assistance grant to Town of Mountain Village Police Department to upgrade records management system with other regional law enforcement agencies to provide better investigative leads, reduce officer time in office, increase statistical data being collected and reported, assist in data collection for UCR and NIBRS reporting.

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant to San Miguel Resource Center to allow the Center to be able to retain the current level of employment of the Client Services Manager and the Executive Director who provide direct victim services in the agency's West End Rural Outreach Program in Nucla and Naturita, Colorado.

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant to The Violence Prevention Coalition of SW Colorado to support the Yes We Can! Project that serves victims of abuse and sexual assault.

 



 

TRANSPORTATION:

$4,000,000

 

Grant to resurface a total of 21.5 miles of SH 62 between Ridgeway and Telluride in asphalt and repair embankments. Project includes some work on US 550.

 



 

WORKFORCE SERVICES AND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:

Workforce Investment Act Funds for job training in the Western County Region, which includes Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, San Miguel, Ouray, and Hinsdale counties.

Wagner Peyser (WP) & Reemployment Services (RES) to the Western County Region, which includes Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, San Miguel, Ouray, and Hinsdale counties.

Extra 20 weeks of benefits, through the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, for 84 people (as of Nov. 30, 2009) in San Miguel County.

Extra $25 per week in unemployment benefits through the Federal Additional Compensation program, for 430 people (as of Nov. 30, 2009) in San Miguel County.

Additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits through a new state law given to 12 people as of Nov. 30, 2009 in San Miguel County.

 



 

ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT:

Estimated funds to be spent for free energy efficiency upgrades in low-income homes in San Miguel County.

Loan forgiveness to the Town of Norwood for water treatment facility upgrades and water treatment storage upgrades.
