CDOT COMPLETES FIRST AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT HIGHWAY PROJECT
ARAPAHOE COUNTY-- The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed its first American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) highway project on time and under budget. The one-mile resurfacing project began on May 19, 2009 and was completed in one month. The original budget for the project was $1.2 million, but the final budget was slightly less than $678,000.
"This is a great accomplishment for CDOT, our contractor and the state of Colorado as we work to improve our economy and our transportation infrastructure," said CDOT Executive Director Russ George.
The Recovery Act project rotomilled and resurfaced approximately one mile of Belleview Avenue (State Highway 88) between Federal Boulevard and Santa Fe Drive in asphalt and replaced concrete curb and gutter. The old roadway was in poor condition and in great need of a new driving surface. This portion of Belleview Avenue carries approximately 32,400 vehicles a day.
Aggregate Industries of Golden, Colorado was the contractor for this project.
In all, Colorado will receive more than $400 million for transportation projects and $103 million for transit projects.
