Web Update - Executive Order to Advance Non-Profit Grant

The Recovery Act includes a competitive grant called the Strengthening Communities Fund. This is a program that is aimed at helping to improve the effectiveness and capabilities of non-profit organizations to work with government agencies to help communities address the struggling economy. To apply for the grant, the governor of a state must designate an organization to lead the process. This week, Gov. Ritter signed an Executive Order that names the Colorado Nonprofit Association as the group that will apply for and administer the grant, if successful. The grant is being distributed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

HHS will award 48 grants of up to $250,000 each for a 24 month project period. Grantees must provide at least a 20 percent match of the total cost of the project, which can be in-kind or cash, although HHS encourages applicants to meet the match requirements through cash contributions. With the required matching gift of $62,500, to fully obtain the SCF grant, the two-year budget allowed through the grant is $312,500.
