GOV. RITTER ANNOUNCES HIRING OF MINORITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR FOR RECOVERY ACT PROGRAMS

Gov. Bill Ritter today praised the hiring of Maranda Pleau as Minority Outreach Coordinator for his Economic Recovery Team. The Economic Recovery Team is charged with tracking all Recovery Act dollars coming to Colorado and with making sure the funds are spent wisely, transparently, and for the greatest benefit to all Coloradans.

"It is important that Recovery Act funds reach all communities in Colorado and that small and minority-owned enterprises get a fair chance to bid for projects," Gov. Ritter said. "Miranda will play a critical role in making sure that happens."

Pleau will start her new job on June 29. She served for nine years as the Manager of Small Business at Hensel Phelps Construction Company. In that position, Pleau helped Hensel Phelps exceed minority participation goals for all Denver projects, including the Webb Municipal Office Building, the Colorado Convention Center expansion, and the Denver Justice Center Courthouse and Detention Facility project.

"Maranda comes to this job with a wealth of experience, a proven record of dedication to the minority business community, as well as a strong desire to help Colorado use its Recovery Act dollars effectively," said Don Elliman, state chief operating officer and chair of the Colorado Economic Recovery and Accountability Board. "We are grateful that she has agreed to join the Governor's Office and use her private-sector skills to help the people of Colorado."

Pleau will be helping state agencies set goals and procedures regarding minority contracting and outreach to minority communities. She is charged with informing those communities about Recovery Act opportunities and with helping them to get involved in the process. She will work with the other five members of the Governor's Economic Recovery Team to track and monitor all Recovery Act dollars coming to Colorado.

Pleau currently serves on the board of directors at the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce, the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Hispanic Contractors of Colorado. She is the president-elect for the Hispanic Contractors and serves on the Construction Empowerment Initiative (CEI) Implementation Committee for the City & County of Denver's Division of Small Business Opportunity. She attended East High School and the University of Denver.
