RECOVERY ACT PROJECT BEGINS TONIGHT TO REPAIR CONCRETE ON I-70

JEFFERSON COUNTY-- Tonight, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin another project funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The project will repair or replace approximately 1,700 square yards of concrete slabs and replace 400,000 linear feet of concrete joint sealant along three miles of I-70 between Kipling Street and Wadsworth Boulevard.

"I am proud one of the first transportation Stimulus Package projects to begin is in the Seventh Congressional District. Not only will this project improve a heavily used section of I-70 but will create and save jobs for New Design Construction, a company in my district. I supported this legislation from the start because it invests in our aging infrastructure while providing economic opportunities for many Coloradans," stated U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07).

By repairing and replacing concrete slabs, CDOT is conducting a pavement preservation project, which is designed to increase the life of the roadway by making repairs to the roadway before it deteriorates to the point where reconstruction is necessary. With this segment of I-70 carrying approximately 127,000 vehicles a day, it is vital to keep it in good condition to ensure safe and reliable travel now and in the future.

Throughout the project, motorists can expect lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. with single lane closures beginning at 8 p.m. and double lane closures at 10 p.m. In addition, there may be various ramp closures during the same hours. For weekly lane closure information please visit http://www.dot.state.co.us/TravelInfo/CurrentCond/index.cfm and click on "Denver Closures."

New Design Construction Co. is the contractor for this $1.8 million project which is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2009.

To date, CDOT has committed funds for 32 ARRA projects across the state. Among those, 27 projects have been advertised for bids and CDOT has selected contractors for 20 projects. To see a list of projects, go to www.dot.state.co.us/arra/.
