Emerging Industries Study
Colorado's Economic Opportunities: Today, Tomorrow and the Future
The University of Colorado at Boulder Leeds School of Business conducted an economic base analysis of Colorado counties and possible long-term industry growth opportunities. The analysis was commissioned by a cooperative statewide partnership that includes the Economic Developers' Council of Colorado (EDCC), the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Business Research Division at the Leeds School of Business, and more than 30 local economic development organizations.
The long-term opportunities analysis is made up of three parts: an economic base data analysis, a Targeted Industry study and an Emerging Industry analysis. The Economic Base data is research that explains what types of businesses comprise a community's economy. A targeted industry study is generally a short to medium term analysis of what a community would like to attract. This new Emerging Industry analysis tries to identify long-term industry opportunities. Over 150 individuals from various key industries and community economic developers participated in the focus group interviews and review process.
The Emerging Industries Study was last completed in 2004.
