Prenatal Services

Presumptive Eligibility
If you are pregnant, you may qualify for a program called Presumptive Eligibility (PE). PE is a program that provides immediate temporary medical coverage for outpatient services for pregnant women. You must complete an application and appear eligible to get the temporary health care benefits. The temporary coverage lasts for at least 45 days while your eligibility for full health care benefits is determined. Click here to find a PE Site in your area.


Finding a Prenatal Care Provider
For assistance finding a provider that accepts Medicaid, click here and select the specialty criteria on the right. You'll find Ob/Gyns, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, and all other types of Medicaid providers in your area. For additional help finding Medicaid providers or services, call the Medicaid Customer Service Contact Center at 303-866-3513 or 1-800-221-3943 or you can email us at

EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment)
EPSDT services 
are available to Medicaid clients age 20 and under and pregnant woman.  Healthy Communities Outreach and Case Management Coordinators can help you find Medicaid providers, arrange transportation to health appointments, provide referrals to community resources, and other helpful services.

 

Special Programs for Pregnant Women
Prenatal Plus
The Prenatal Plus program is a special program for pregnant women on Medicaid that provides case management, nutrition counseling, and psychosocial services to pregnant women who are at risk for negative maternal and infant health outcomes due to lifestyle, behavior, and non-medical parts of a woman's life the could affect her pregnancy.  Click here for a directory of Prenatal Plus providers.  
 

Nurse Home Visitor Program
A special program for low-income women who are pregnant with their first child. The program is also for these first children up to their second birthday. NHVP offers case management and health education services to moms and their first babies in order to help them get the medical and social services that they need. Click here for a directory of local providers.

 

Special Connections 
A special program for pregnant women on Medicaid who have alcohol and/or drug abuse problems. Case management, counseling, and health education are provided through this program.  Call the Department of Human Services' Division of Behavioral Health at
303-866-7400 to find a provider in your area.

 

Health Concerns or Questions
Medicaid offers a free 24-hour nurse advice line - 1-800-283-3221

 

No Copays
You have no copays for Medicaid-covered services and prescriptions while you are pregnant and for two months after your pregnancy ends.

 

Smoking Cessation

  • Do you smoke? Are you ready to quit? Contact the Colorado QuitLine
    at 1-800-Quit-Now 1-800-784-8669 or Colorado QuitLine for free coaching and support.
  • Talk with your health care provider about the benefits and risks of taking smoking cessation medications while you are pregnant. Medicaid covers two 90-day courses of smoking cessation medication with counseling to help you quit.

Prenatal Vitamins
Prenatal vitamins are a free benefit for all pregnant women. Talk with your health care provider about the benefits of taking a prenatal vitamin every day. A prescription is required.

 

Help with Depression
Mental and behavioral health services are available to clients on Medicaid. All Medicaid-covered mental and behavioral health services are provided through Behavioral Health Organizations. Please contact the Behavioral Health Organization in your area to set up an appointment.

 

Transportation
Free Non-Emergent Medical Transportation is available if you have no other means of transportation to get to and/or from health appointments for Medicaid-covered services. If you live in one of the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson or Larimer, please call First Transit at 1-855-CO4-NEMT (1-855-264-6368) for transportation arrangements. If you live outside of these counties, please contact your county department of human/social services for information on how to access Non-Emergent Medical Transportation. You need to call at least two days before your health appointment.

 

Enrolling your Newborn

In order for your baby to be enrolled, you or your health care provider must notify us of the birth of your baby. You can call your county department human/social services or click here for instructions on submitting an online form as soon as possible.

 

Planning for the Future
