PARTICIPATION:

In May - July 2012, the Nursing Facility Advisory Committee (NFAC) discussed the purpose and effectiveness of the meetings and the need for participation and formal membership in the group. While there will not be appointed members, stakeholders agreed that the NFAC should exist for the following purposes:

  •  To identify challenges to the provision of Medicaid services in nursing facilities

  • To provide a place for two-way communication about how Department nursing facility policies are affecting recipients and providers

  • To provide a place for discussion of those issues unique to nursing facilities and their residents

Jason Takaki, the new supervisor of the LTSS Facilities Unit within the LTSS Division at the Department, is asking for feedback from the public on proposed rules relating to nursing facilities. Below is some background information:

In April of 2012, Neal Christensen, a temporary employee in the LTSS Facility Operations Section, held an open forum in which all the Nursing Facility providers were invited to attend to ask questions and make recommendations regarding the current regulations impacting their operations.

On June 18, 2012, Lisa Potter, a temporary employee in the LTSS Facility Operations Section, held a follow-up session with the same group.  The group identified points of contention and proposed clarifying language that would help address those areas of concern.  The work from that group produced nine proposed rules in the linked document below.

In the spirit of continuing collaboration, the Department offers the proposed rules for an additional 30-day public comment period prior to the presentation of the rules for initial adoption at the Medical Services Board meeting on March 8, 2013.  Please send Jason any questions or comments by March 7, 2013. You may  contact him at Jason.Takaki@state.co.us or 303-866-6687.
