COLORADO RACE TO THE TOP RECOMMEDATIONS TO GOV. RITTER ON FRIDAY

Recommendations for Colorado's Race to the Top education reform grant proposal will go to Gov. Bill Ritter tomorrow (Friday), following today's issuance of final guidelines from the U.S. Department of Education.

"Colorado's efforts align well with the guidelines announced today. We have been working on these education reforms since 2007 -- before there was a Race to the Top - and will put together a robust proposal for federal funding," said Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien, who is spearheading the state's Race to the Top efforts.

Hundreds of people have volunteered time in Colorado to help propose the recommendations over the past three months. States are competing against each other for the education reform dollars, with final proposals due in mid-January.

The recommendations will be made from 1:00-2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Old Supreme Court Chambers, 2nd floor of the State Capitol, 200 E. Colfax Avenue.

Governor Ritter, Lt. Governor O'Brien and Education Commissioner Dwight Jones will be available for comment to the news media immediately following the meeting.
