GOV. RITTER CONGRATULATES LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL ON EVE OF STUDENT COUNCILS CONFERENCE

Gov. Bill Ritter today congratulated a dedicated group of students, teachers, and administrators from Highlands Ranch High School as they prepare to kick off the 2009 National Association of Student Councils Conference in Highlands Ranch.

"It is a pleasure to see that the national selection committee has recognized the more than three-year long effort of the students of Highlands Ranch and bring this event to Colorado. Education leaders throughout the country are viewing Colorado as a leader in terms of education reform, in particular in areas related to high school student achievement and college and career readiness. Thanks to the hard work of Highlands Ranch's student leaders, Leadership with an Altitude is a unique style others throughout the nation can witness firsthand."

On Saturday, June 27, approximately 1,200 students and 500 advisors from across the nation will travel to Highlands Ranch High School for the launch of the 73rd Annual National Association of Student Councils Conference. This will be only the second time the conference has been hosted in Colorado -- Smoky Hill High School in Aurora had the honor of hosting the event in 1992.

The conference consists of student leaders and advisors from across the country coming together to further develop leadership skills, network with other students and administrators, and obtain innovative ideas about service. The National Association of Student Councils Conference is run by students and volunteers across the state.

The four day conference will begin at Highlands Ranch High School at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, in the main gymnasium. Day two of the program will take place on Sunday, June 28, at 9:45 a.m. at the Colorado University campus in Boulder.

Highlands Ranch High School is located at 9375 S. Cresthill Lane, Highlands Ranch, 80130. Coors Event Center, Lower Gym is located on Kittredge Loop Rd., Boulder, 80309
