GOV. RITTER URGES WORKERS, GROCERY STORES TO CONTINUE TALKS
One day before the expiration of a labor agreement between approximately 17,000 grocery workers and Colorado grocery stores, Gov. Bill Ritter tonight issued the following statement:
"I strongly urge all parties -- the United Food and Commercial Workers, King Soopers, Safeway, Albertsons, City Market and other stores -- to redouble their efforts to reach an agreement on their labor contracts, the largest of which expires Saturday night.
"These are tough economic times for all Colorado families, and I am deeply concerned about the impact of any labor action -- a strike and/or a lockout of employees -- on grocery workers and shoppers across the state.
"I know that both sides have spent many long, hard hours working through their issues, and I appreciate their commitment to reaching an agreement."
