GOV. RITTER CONGRATULATES COLORADO NEW ENERGY ECONOMY COMPANIES

Gov. Bill Ritter today congratulated four Colorado companies selected as 2008 Best Venture Award winners during this week's 21st annual Clean Energy Industry Growth Forum.

The National Renewal Energy Laboratory sponsors the forum. The award winners received prizes, totaling $25,000, which are intended to help early-stage companies develop their emerging clean-energy technologies. Thirty-five companies from around the country competed for the awards.

"The fact that the four companies honored with these cash awards are all from Colorado demonstrates yet again that we are leading the nation in building a New Energy Economy," Gov. Ritter said. "I congratulate each of these companies and the innovative and entrepreneurial people who are helping to create a new energy future for America."

Porous Power Technologies received the top prize, $10,000, as the Best Early Venture of the Year. The company is commercializing highly-efficient separator membranes that can dramatically improve the performance and reduce the cost of lithium-ion batteries.

Evolutionary Genomics earned the second-place award for Best Early Venture of the Year, with a $5,000 prize. The company is developing bio-energy plants and algae for fuel.

Tendril was named the Best Late Stage Investment of Year, with a $5,000 prize, for its software and hardware system that allows utilities and their residential customers to manage their energy consumption.

Ampulse Corp. was named the Best Early Seed Investment of the Year, with a $5,000 prize, for its low-cost, high-efficiency solar cell technology.
