DENVER — Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper issued this statement today about the death last week of former Colorado Gov. John Vanderhoof:
“Gov. John Vanderhoof served our state and our country with great distinction. He was a decorated fighter pilot shot down three times in the Pacific and became Colorado’s governor after two decades representing the Western Slope in the House of Representatives.
“Gov. Vanderhoof believed in public service and was passionate about leaving his community better off than he found it. In that regard and so much more, he was beyond successful. We were saddened to learn of his death last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
