Gov. Hickenlooper appoints new county court judge

DENVER — Friday, April 26, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today appointed Mary Joan Berenato to serve as a county court judge in Larimer County, which is in the 8th Judicial District. Berenato will fill a vacancy that occurred as a result of the retirement of the Hon. Ronald L. Schultz.


Berenato currently serves as a District Court Magistrate in the 8th Judicial District, where she is assigned to a domestic relations docket including both pre-decree and post-decree matters. She had also been assigned to the juvenile delinquency docket, the juvenile drug docket, the truancy docket, and the dependency and neglect docket.


Previously, Berenato was a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s 8th and 19th Judicial Districts. She worked as an Associate Attorney at the firm Otto, Porterfield & Post, LLC, and as an Assistant County Attorney in Eagle County, and as a Law Clerk for Chief Judge Gaspar Perricone in the 1st Judicial District.


The appointment is effective April 30, 2013.
