Gov. Hickenlooper proclaims Denver Nuggets May-nia

DENVER — Friday, April 19, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today proclaimed “Denver Nuggets May-nia” in recognition of one of the best seasons the Denver Nuggets have had in franchise history. On Saturday, the Denver Nuggets will start their 10th consecutive postseason playoffs with a home court advantage against the Golden State Warriors.

 

“We hereby proclaim the rest of April and May 2013, Denver Nuggets May-nia in the State of Colorado. To show pride and steadfast support, we will proudly fly the banner of the Denver Nuggets at the state Capitol as long as the team is in the playoffs this year,” the proclamation says.

DENVER NUGGETS MAY-NIA
May 2013

 

WHEREAS, the 2012/13 season has been one of the best seasons in Denver Nuggets franchise history as the team captured the third seed in the Western Conference Playoffs with a 57-24 record, including a Nuggets team record with 15 consecutive victories; and

 

WHEREAS, the Nuggets demonstrated teamwork and coined the phrase “teamness” by utilizing the entire team: six players averaged double-digits in points; four players contributed more than five rebounds per game; and eight players averaged more than 20 minutes per game while no one averaged more than 35 minutes per game; and

 

WHEREAS, the Nuggets dominated the Western Conference and have a combined record of 20-7 against Western Conference playoff teams; they are first in the NBA in fast-break and points in the paint per game; second in rebounds and steals; and third in assists and blocked shots. Also, the Nuggets averaged more points per game than another team in the NBA with 106.5 per game; and

 

WHEREAS, the Nuggets finished the season with 23 consecutive home wins and the best NBA home record for the 2012/13 season at 38-3, thus demonstrating the intensity of the Denver Nuggets and the support of the fans also known as “the 6th Man”; and

 

WHEREAS, Coach George Karl is a leading candidate for NBA Coach of the Year for leading a team that capitalizes on the Mile High altitude and high energy of a quick team. Plus, the team has Andre Iguodala, who won a gold medal in London with the USA basketball team and is a leading candidate for NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and Ty Lawson and Andre Miller, who have both provided team leadership and paved the way to the playoffs; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of Colorado recognizes that this is one of the best Nuggets team in this organization’s history, and to show its pride and steadfast support will proudly fly the banner of the Denver Nuggets at the state Capitol as long as the team is in the playoffs this year;

 

Therefore, I, John W. Hickenlooper, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim the rest of April and May 2013, DENVER NUGGETS MAY-NIA in the State of Colorado. GIVEN under my hand and the Executive Seal of the State of Colorado, this nineteenth day of April
