Gov. Hickenlooper appoints judge to Colorado Court of Appeals

DENVER — Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced today the appointment of Tony Navarro to the Colorado Court of Appeals. Navarro will fill a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Robert Russel.


Navarro currently serves as the Supervisory Attorney and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Social Security Administration’s Office of General Counsel, a position he has held since December 2010. He supervises a staff of 10 attorneys in handling the office’s workload and manages the office’s appellate litigation, which constitutes about 70 percent of his practice. Prior to his current position, Navarro was Assistant Regional Counsel/Special Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2008 -2010 for the Social Security Administration. Additionally, he practiced at Holland & Hart in the commercial litigation practice group.


Navarro earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a J.D. from Yale Law School.


The appointment is effective Nov. 3, 2012.
