DENVER — Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced today the appointment of Linda Billings-Vela to serve as a county judge in the 4th Judicial District (Teller County). Billings-Vela will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Jackson L. Peters Jr.
Billings-Vela, of Teller County, is a magistrate in the 4th Judicial District Court, where she has worked since 2009. She presides over the dependency and neglect docket and the family treatment drug court docket.
Billings-Vela earlier worked for the 4th Judicial District’s District Attorney’s Office (1995-1997 and 2001-2009) where she prosecuted criminal cases in the juvenile, county court, district court, and economic crimes division. In the interim, she worked in the private sector as an Associate with Anderson, Dude & Lebel, P.C. Her practice included general civil matters, school law, domestic relations and municipal utilities law. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and a J.D. from the University of Denver School of Law.
Billings-Vela’s judicial appointment is effective Oct. 1.
