Defensive Driving

The top six driver errors resulting in a vehicle collision include:

  • Overspeed
  • Distracted driving
  • Following too closely
  • Failure to yield
  • Incorrect merging
  • Backing up

More than 41,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes each year and over 2.4 million more suffer disabling injuries, according to the National Safety Council (NSC).

To address this, the State Office of Risk Management  (SORM) offers a classroom-based four-hour Defensive Driving class to all State employees at NO CHARGE

To schedule Defensive Driving at your location please submit a DDC4 Request Form to Mr. Sunny Bradford, sunny.bradford@state.co.us, or 303-866-3609.

In light of the NSC and National Transportation Safety Board to formally recommend a complete ban of cell phone use while driving for all motorists, SORM offers resources to develop a cell phone use policy, including www.minnesotasafetycouncil.org/traffic/distracteddriving/. and a white paper titled "Understanding the Distraction of the Brain"
