Application Process
Application for Assistance
Eligibility: To be eligible, an applicant must be an active state employee in any branch of state government with at least 6 months of permanent state service or retired from Colorado state government.
No applicant will be denied eligibility on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, sexual preference, or other non-meritorious factor.
Grants: Grants, not loans, are provided. Repayment of grants is not required but contributions to the foundation are welcome should a recipient be in a position to do so at a later time.
Grants are not awarded to pay for debt consolidation, credit card payments, litigation, poor financial planning, non-essential items, wage garnishments, taxes, bail, expenses related to vehicles, phones, cable services, life insurance, or other non-emergency expenses.
Grants are limited to $200 in any 12-month period, subject to availability of funds. If an initial grant of less than that amount has been given, the recipient may be eligible for an additional grant for the remainder of the $200 limit if it is for a different problem/emergency. In an effort to assist as many employees as possible, repeat requests may not be granted, depending on the number of applications and availability of funds at the time. The foundation was not created to be an ongoing source of regular support.
Criteria for Review: In addition to eligibility and the application, need or hardship, use of the funds if the application is granted, and the availability of funds at the time of request are considered.
Application Process: An application form must be completed. In addition to this web site, application forms are available by calling Working Together at 303-831-8645. They are also available at Division of Human Resources in the Department of Personnel & Administration, Colorado State Employees Assistance Program, Credit Union of Colorado, and many agency human resource offices and employee councils. The form is self-explanatory and has instructions, including what documents to attach. Please note that Working Together has no office or staff so contact with the foundation itself is limited to voice messaging.
Completed forms must be mailed to the foundation at 1373 Grant Street, Denver, CO 80203. Applications are strictly confidential; however, information may be verified. Applications are processed on a "first come, first served" basis with priority given to first-time requests for assistance.
Applicants will receive acknowledgement and a status update within three business days from receipt of the complete application. Notice is also given when funds become available for approved applications.
Once reviewed and approved, checks made payable to creditors are mailed to the applicant’s home address. Checks are not issued to applicants or family members. No cash is issued.
The Board reserves the right to make exceptions based on individual circumstances and availability of funds.
