Flexible Work Arrangements: Tools for Supervisors

The use of all of forms, tools, and checklists on this page are not mandatory. Please check with your supervisor and HR office to see if your department has different forms and resources in place.

What is a supervisor's first step?
If you haven't already, check with your HR office to identify and review your organization's policy on flexible work arrangements and whether your organization uses any different forms or processes. You must approve any subordinate employees' flexible work arrangements requests prior to implementation. If you do not approve a request, you must have a viable business reason.

What next?
Two things; 1 - if your organization has a policy and allows flexible work arrangements, review the FWA orientation and frequently asked questions documents, and 2 - complete a supervisor/manager self assessment.

And then?
If you and your employees are ready for FWA, have a requesting employee complete an application and agreement form, where applicable. If a Flexplace arrangement is being considered for approval, you may need to complete an ergonomic and safety evaluation of the alternate office location. Then, decide whether to approve a request based on business needs and goals. After Flexplace implementation, the last step is to complete a status and evaluation  review of the arrangement to ensure goals and objectives are being met.
