Pre-Licensing Education Course Outline

All providers offering pre-licensing education are required to administer the same courses that have been approved by the Colorado Real Estate Commission. This ensures that all licensees have received the necessary education and training to pass the Colorado and National Real Estate Broker's Exam.

 

Real Estate Law and Practice (48 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by introducing the student to the practice of real estate through the study of a common body of knowledge including key terms and concepts in real estate as well as the related federal laws practiced in the majority of states on a national level.

 

Colorado Real Estate Contracts and Regulations (48 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by having students prepare and understand Colorado Real Estate Commission approved contracts and understand Colorado real estate regulations.

 

Closings (24 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by students exhibiting the basic skills necessary to properly close a real estate transaction, including responsibilities from the contract through and after the closing, plus accounting for all funds received and disbursed as well as a comprehensive review of the legal documents prepared by the broker.

 

Recordkeeping and Trust Accounts (8.0 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by instructing students in the proper recordkeeping procedures required by the Real Estate Commission to maintain and account for funds belonging to others.

 

Practical Applications (32.0 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by providing a course of study for new real estate brokers in the real-world application of laws, rules and standard of practices. This course is required of all new license appplicants, but its content is not included on the broker licensing exam.

 

Current Legal Issues (8.0 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by providing a course of study for students to develop or enhance their knowledge and awareness of current real estate and real estate related statutes and regulations and important legal issues, developments and practices. This course is required of all new license appplicants, but its content is not included on the broker licensing exam.

 

Recordkeeping, Trust Accounts and Closings - Attorney Course (12.0 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by instructing attorney students in proper closing and recordkeeping procedures required by the Real Estate Commission to maintain and account for funds belonging to others. This course meets the pre-licensing curricula for attorney applicants specified in C.R.S. 12-61-103 (12).

 

Brokerage Administration (24 Hours)

Course Objective: To protect the public by providing a course of study to aspiring employing brokers for the practical application of laws, rules and sound business practices for the establishment and everyday management, operation and supervision of a real estate brokerage company. [ Appendices ] This course is a requirement for upgrade to employing broker, and is also accepted once in a lifetime for the full 24 hours of continuing education.

 

Broker Reactivation  (24 Hours)

Course Objective: To provide a refresher course on Colorado Real Estate Commission approved contracts, Colorado real estate regulations and review the most current material included in the Colorado Annual Update Course. The course, once completed and passed, can be used to satisfy the continuing education requirement for licensees who wishes to active or reinstate their license after being inactive or expired less than 37 months and have not maintain their continuing education requirements. Additionally, this course is available to active licensees, every other license cycle, who wish to meet their continuing education requirements in lieu of rule B-2.
