Module I-Getting Started/First Steps to Immediate IECC Benefits
Congratulations! You have taken the first step to understanding the benefits of energy codes-educating yourself. This module is designed to give you an overall view of how and why energy codes can provide consistency and minimum energy efficiency for new and existing buildings. Implementing the first energy codes in your jurisdiction can start out as a journey filled with unknowns, but it will soon become structured, valued and very rewarding. This module will provide you with guidance and resources to make that journey easier. Know that you are not alone, and that you have many associates that are here to help. The Colorado Chapter of the International Code Council has hundreds of members all over Colorado. There are several who have recently incorporated energy codes into their jurisdictions and will gladly provide you details of their processes.
Benefits of IECC adoption
What did you expect when you purchased your home or a commercial building? Most of you expected that when it rained, the inside would stay dry, that when it snowed, the roof would support the added weight, that when the wind blew, the walls would not move; that there would be hot water, that the home or building would also be reasonably comfortable and energy efficient. Many also believed that any additions or remodeling had been completed properly. Without a minimum standard as a benchmark, these buyer expectations may not be a reality.
Energy codes supplement building codes to provide that minimum energy efficiency standard!
