|In 2011 the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office implemented the K9 Unit to assist law enforcement with the search and detection of narcotics and tracking. That same year, “Bruce”, a 3 year old Belgium Malinois, was purchased from a company in the Netherlands specializing in K-9 dogs.
Bruce and Deputy Michael Grant attended an intensive 3 week training at Canine Unlimited in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bruce and Deputy Grant are certified by the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) in the areas of narcotics detection and human tracking.
Deputy Grant and Bruce are on call 24/7, where they provide law enforcement assistance with searches for drugs like methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine and heroin.
