Andrew Jackson Williams was born in July 1839 in Hamilton County, Ohio. On July 16, 1861 at the age of 22, he volunteered for service in the Union Army. He was discharged in 1865 at Montgomery, Alabama. The 1885 Census of Western Routt County, Colorado shows him living at Lay, Colorado where he was married and was employed as a mail carrier. He died in 1888 and is buried on a hill above Lay.
On Memorial Day, 2003, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4265 paid tribute to Mr. Williams with a memorial service at the gravesite.
