Duties: Coordinate Road and bridge maintenance and construction projects and activities with appropriate superbisors,team leaders, department heads and other appropriate personnel. Developwork plans, schedules, priorities and materials/procurement requests. Manage supervisios' activities including but not limited to performance, adherence to regulations, disciplinary actions and appropriate development. Make emergency plans and initiate employee call backs as required. Complete performance appraisals and administer disciplinary actions. Develop, with appropriate supervisors, weekly, monthly and annual schedules of prioritized maintenance work. Direct traffic control operations, equipment mobilization, fueling of equipment, training and safety program management including substance use testing.Calculate quantities of material required; monitor and account for materials usage. Answer inquiries and complaints from supervisors, agencies and the general public. Investigate, prioritize and address complaints. Review time keeping records. Investigate accident and injury reports Budget preparation, submission and monitoring of expenses and revenues.


Biography: John graduated from Sierra Grande High School in 1966. He attended Adams State College until 1969 then entered the United States Marine Corps and served for two years with one year served in Viet Nam. After being honorably discharged John worked for Gates Rubber Company from 1971-1981. From 1981-1986 John worked for the Town of Blanca as the Town Maintenance Man in charge of Streets/Alleys, Park, Water and Sanitation. John was hired as the Public Works Foreman for the Town of Del Norte from 1986-1991, in charge of Streets/Alleys, Parks, Water and Sanitation Systems. The City of Lafayette, Colorado hired John as the Water Plant Foreman from 1991-1996 after which John and his wife went on a two year religious mission in Lubbock, TX 1996-1998. In July of 1998 John moved back to the San Luis Valley and was hired with the Costilla County Road and Bridge Department on October of 1998 until the present. John worked for District One Shop until March of 1994 when the County Commissioners moved him to work as Commissioners Assistant in charge of Grants and Special Projects, HUTF Annual Report and Road Inspections, County GIS Mapping of County Roads and the Road and Bridge End of Year Reports.
