CICJIS Overview
The Colorado Integrated Criminal Justice Information System (CICJIS) is a collaborative program designed to facilitate information sharing at key decision points in the criminal justice process across the boundaries of organizations and jurisdictions among the State criminal justice agencies to enhance public safety, improve decision making, increase productivity and improve access to information.
CICJIS is an independent program that relies on the equal participation of the five CICJIS agencies - CBI, CDAC, Judicial, CDOC and DYC. Each agency has its own business, business models and strategies, yet each has a vested interest in and gains benefits from the CICJIS program.
The CICJIS information system is made up of electronic services or functions - the entire program consists of electronic services that maximize standardization of data and communications technology among the five agencies. CICJIS acts as a hub that links these systems together into one virtual computer system allowing the systems to share common data and to provide a single view or source of criminal justice information to all criminal justice agencies. CICJIS continually strives to provide efficient and effective services to its customers.
CICJIS is a product of a continuing cooperative, collaborative effort among Colorado's criminal justice agencies and elected officials. CICJIS provides information sharing services providing access to data across all the agencies and by eliminating the need for redundant data entry using automated systems. The automated systems are designed to provide one-time entry of data and efficient access to justice information to all agency consumers and their customers using secure, role-based authenticated methods.
These services were designed with a broad consensus that integrated justice information could potentially save lives, time and money. Achieving the benefits of integrated justice can be a difficult and complex task, requiring ongoing support and enhancement. The technical and organizational challenges require sustained commitment from key people and organizations, as well as investment of resources and changes to the way work is done. Constant communication, joint planning and decision making, bipartisanship and a long-term perspective are methods used to ensure continued success. |
