Crime Classification Guide 2014
This guide is a compilation of crimes and traffic infractions in Colorado. For each offense, a brief description of the elements of the crime and the statutory citation is provided. The compilation of crimes is organized in two parts as follows:
Crimes Listed by Level of Offense this section contains separate lists of class 1 felonies, class 2 felonies, class 3 felonies, class 4 felonies, class 5 felonies, class 6 felonies, levels 1 through 4 drug felonies, unclassified felonies, class 1 misdemeanors, class 2 misdemeanors, class 3 misdemeanors, levels 1 and 2 drug misdemeanors, unclassified misdemeanors, class 1 misdemeanor traffic offenses, class 2 misdemeanor traffic offenses, unclassified misdemeanor traffic offenses, class 1 petty offenses, class 2 petty offenses, unclassified petty offenses, drug petty offenses, unclassified offenses, class A traffic infractions, class B traffic infractions, and unclassified traffic infractions; and
Crimes Listed by Crime Type this section lists classified felonies (including drug felonies), misdemeanors (including drug misdemeanors), and misdemeanor traffic offenses by crime type; i.e., the different felony and misdemeanor crime levels of a particular offense (for instance, sexual assault) are all listed together.
Please consult the table of contents for a detailed listing of the crimes listed in each of the two sections.
The sentencing scheme for felonies, drug felonies, misdemeanors, drug misdemeanors, petty offenses, drug petty offenses, and traffic infractions is listed at the beginning of each of those sections in the first part of this compilation. The crimes in the second part of the compilation are listed by C.R.S. title. The crimes in Title 18 are further divided into categories such as: Offenses Against Persons, Offenses Against Property, etc.
To help locate a particular classification of offense in the first part of the compilation, the bottom of each page is identified with an abbreviation of the classification. For example, 1F is used for Class 1 Felonies, 1M for Class 1 Misdemeanors, and ATI for class A traffic Infractions.
This guide is updated annually. Any comments or suggestions for improvement or correction are appreciated and will be given consideration for the next publication. The list of offenses is current through the 2013 regular legislative session.
