COLORADO LEGISLATORS PAST & PRESENT

 

Colorado Joint Legislative Library staff has compiled information on senators and representatives elected or appointed to the Colorado territorial or state legislature.

This online database provides legislative information on former and current Colorado legislators as an aid to the general public and researchers. Sources used to compile information include; legislative manuals; legislative journals; session laws; abstracts of votes cast; directories; press books; obituaries; news clippings; news paper files of The Denver Post; Denver Public Library Western History collection, and family-supplied information. 

While each legislator is represented here, this database is a work in progress and is by no means complete. The library does not guarantee the accuracy of the information in the database.

State legislators are arranged alphabetically by surname.
Information on these pages includes:
Name: As much of the known name of the individual
House: Whether the individual served in the House or Senate, Constitutional Convention or territorial House or Territorial Council
Years Served: Dates of service in the House or Senate or both
Assembly: General Assembly number in which the legislator served
District:

Geographic district represented while serving in the legislature


**NOTE: House districts were not numbered before 1964**

Party: Political party or parties the legislator was affiliated with while in the legislature
Leadership: Whether the legislator served in a position of leadership such as Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, Majority or Minority Leader, Majority or Minority Whip, or Caucus Chair
Post: Other governmental/organizational positions held; whether resigned seat or if appointed to replace a legislator who resigned or died in office
City: City of residence while in the legislature
Occupation: Occupation(s) of legislator during career
County: County or counties of residence while in the legislature
Born:  When and where if known
Died: When and where if known
Committees: Committees served on and whether the individual served as committee chair or vice-chair of a committee
