A shooting late Monday night in Naturita sent one man to the hospital and resulted in another being arrested for his alleged role in the incident.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is assisting the Naturita Town Marshal’s Office with the investigation of the shooting occurring on Monday, July 23, just after 11:00 p.m. outside of Ron’s Repair Center, 440 West Main St., in Naturita.
It’s believed the suspect in the case, Ronald L. McGuffee (DOB: 9/1/1964) of Naturita was involved in an argument with another man, Brandon Pacheco (DOB: 3/3/77). When McGuffee allegedly brandished a handgun, Pacheco fled the scene in a vehicle with another individual. It’s alleged McGuffee fired a shot at the vehicle, which struck Pacheco inside the car.
Pacheco was later airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction where he is currently being treated. He is condition is unknown at this time.
McGuffee turned himself in to CBI agents working in Montrose at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24 without incident. He was taken to the Montrose County Jail where he’s currently being held on first degree assault.
In addition to CBI agents investigating the case with Naturita law enforcement officials, members of CBI’s Forensics Unit processed the crime scene and collected evidence connected to the incident. Members of the Colorado State Patrol and the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance in the response to this incident.
CBI will continue to work with the Naturita Town Marshal as well as the 7th Judicial District Attorney’s Office with this ongoing investigation.
