Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program   Underground injection wells are primarily used to
         dispose of wastes into the subsurface and have the potential to adversely affect underground
        sources of drinking water. THe UIC Program in Colorado is administered by the USEPA Reg 8

The Biosolids Program established requirements for the beneficial use of domestic wastewater treatment plant sludge. Biosolids are a byproduct of wastewater treatment plants. They contain both valuable nutrients for crop growth and soil conditioning materials. Beneficial use requires proper treatments and managemetn to protect public health and the environment.

The Pretreatment Program is designed to prevent pass through of hazardous materials and interference at Publically Owned Treatment Works (POTW's), protect the quality of POTW sludge, and to protect POTW workers from fires, explosions, and other safety hazards related to industrial discharges.

Types of Permittees
1. Industrial User - indirect dischargers		Application
2. Publically Owned Treatment Works that receive discharges of non-domestic wastes from industrial users.		Application
3. Pretreatment Non-Significant Industrial User - this application applies to sources of discharge to a POTW in which the user NEVER discharges more that 100 gallons per day (gpd) of total categorical wastewater (exluding sanitary, non-contact cooling and boiler blowdown wastewater, unless specifically included in the Pretreatment Standard). The Following conditions MUST BE MET: a. The Industrial User has consistently complied with all applicable categorical Pretreatment Standards and Requirements. b. The Industrial User annually submits the certification required in 40 CFR 403.12(q) together with any additional information necessary to support the certificaiton statement. c. The Industrial User never discharges any untreated concentrated wastewater.

The Reclaimed Water Program is designed to promote the use of reclaimed water in Colorado.
The program includes requirements for reclaimed water to meet minimal standards, and for treaters
and users of reclaimed water to employ best management practices and oversee its use.

Clean Water Compliance and Enforcement Unit

The Clean Water Compliance and Enforcement Unit monitors self reported data from facilities that have discharge permits. The Enforcement Specialists are in charge of working with these facilities to make sure that the State of Colorado's wastewater is meeting the guidelines set by the Clean Water Act.


If you have received a compliance advisory regarding your discharge monitoring reports, please review the DMR Guidance Document to ensure that you are filling your DMRs out with the proper parameters and reporting units.		If you believe you have identified an error in the data reported to the Division and/or published through EPA's Enforcement & Compliance History Online (ECHO), please click on the link to report the error directly through the ECHO Website.

On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), commonly called septic systems or Individual Sewage Disposal Systems (ISDS), are systems for treating sewage near the location where sewage was generated rather than in a central wastewater treatment facility. For OWTS information click here.

Graywater is the sewage remaining after toilet wastes or toilet and kitchen wastes are separated for other treatment. Reusing graywater for purposes such as subsurface irrigation or toilet flushing has been proposed. For graywater information click here.
