Colorado Air Quality Control Commission to host public forum in Grand Junction
DENVER — The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission is hosting a public forum at the Grand Junction Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, to gather air quality information and hear about successes and concerns from Western Slope residents.
Residents; elected officials; and representatives of government, industry and public interest groups are encouraged to attend the forum.
“The forum is an opportunity for us to hear about issues of importance to communities in the region,” said former Grand Junction Mayor Teresa Coons. “We expect to get a lot of questions and gather information about regional air quality issues, including oil and gas development. But this forum is not limiting in any way. We want to hear from residents, advocacy groups, industries and government officials.” Coons has been a member of the commission since 2007.
Created in 1970 by the Colorado Legislature, the Air Quality Control Commission develops air pollution control policy, regulates pollution sources and conducts hearings involving violations of the state’s air pollution laws.
The nine-member commission is a citizen board appointed by Colorado’s governor to three-year terms with the consent of the Colorado Senate.
The commission meets on the third Thursday of the month in Denver but periodically travels to other communities throughout the state for meetings and forums such as the one planned in Grand Junction.
Visit the commission’s website for more information. The website includes commissioner biographies, an index to key and emerging issues, and the commission’s strategic plan and calendar.
