Immunizations are focus of Univision Colorado Spanish-Language health news program
Tu Salud’s second season premiere episode
DENVER – Tu Salud, a Univision Colorado KCEC-TV Spanish-language health program, kicks off its second season Saturday with a focus on immunizations. The program features a Colorado family that struggled with pertussis (whooping cough) and a discussion on the importance of immunizations and communication with Dr. Chris Urbina, executive director and chief medical officer of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The 30-minute program airs on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the first program of its second season airing on Saturday, March 16. The program, underwritten by the Colorado Health Foundation, is designed to give Spanish speakers information they need to achieve access to care by being active members of their community, taking control of their health, and requesting the health services they need when they need them.
“I was delighted to help this important health program kick off its second season on Univision,” said Dr. Urbina. “Immunization always is an important topic, and, with our recent pertussis outbreak, Coloradans have again witnessed why immunizations are an important part of keeping yourself and your family healthy.”
Tu Salud features guests who relate their experiences attempting to access quality health care services, including details about the challenges they encountered and the lessons learned. Show host Luisa Collins is joined each week by a health professional that provides tools and advice for overcoming barriers encountered by the featured family. At the conclusion of each show, viewers see how self-advocacy and tenacity help families overcome their health challenges and obtain the care they need when they need it. They also learn that their opinion matters and that they should be active participants in making health care decisions for themselves and their children.
The season of Tu Salud will run through June 8 and, in addition to immunizations, will cover topics including Medicaid, Child Health Plan Plus, diabetes and mental health.
