Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon recall updated to include additional lot code
Possible health risk from Listeria
 
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment today announced the expanded voluntary recall by Whole Foods Market of Austin, Texas, of Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon (4 ounce), cold-smoked and sliced, because it may contain Listeria.
The recall now is updated to include a second lot code, 7425A2297A. This is in addition to the lot announced on Monday, 7425A2298B. The lot code is printed on the back of the package, on the upper left side. The UPC code is the same for both lots, 0 99482 40880 0.
Although there have been no illnesses reported to date, Whole Foods Market is taking this precautionary step. The company announced the recall after learning a sample of the product tested positive for Listeria.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause a sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Customers should dispose of the product in the garbage and wash their hands immediately to avoid any potential cross-contamination. Contact the place of purchase for a refund. Customers with questions may call 512-542-0060, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time.
