Inspection and Enforcement

The Division has statutory and regulatory authority to conduct onsite compliance inspections at solid and hazardous waste sites and facilities as well as facilities that manage radioactive materials or have radiation-producing machines. Among other things, Division inspectors have authority to inspect site activities, materials management practices and facility records. Most inspections are pre-arranged to ensure relevant facility personnel and records are available, but may be unannounced if the Division receives a complaint or has other reason to suspect that illegal activities may be occurring at the facility.
