HAI Surveillance Data and Reports

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment annually issues a healthcare associated infections report showing infection rates at individual facilities compared to national standards for the following:

  • Surgical site infections in breast, cardiac, orthopedic and abdominal surgeries in acute care hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers
  • Central line associated bloodstream infections in adult and neonatal critical care units, long-term acute care hospitals and rehabilitation hospitals and wards
  • Dialysis-related infections in outpatient dialysis treatment centers

The annual report can assist consumers with decisions about where to receive health care. However, when reviewing the data, it is important to consider that infection rates can be influenced by factors such surveillance and reporting practices as well as patient health rather than poor infection control practices.
