Purpose of the Program
The medication administration program is established in accordance with 25-1.5-301, C.R.S. et seq. The medication administration course is designed to teach and qualify unlicensed staff to safely administer prescribed medications in settings authorized by law. Individuals who successfully complete the course and testing are known as Qualified Medication Administration Persons. QMAPs are not licensed or certified, and are prohibited from making any assessment or evaluation of a client. There is a $55 fee for the Department of Public Health and Environment’s course, written and hands-on practical exam. QMAPs must re-quality every five years.

Authorized Settings
Authorized settings for Department of Public Health and Environment course:
- Assisted living residences
- State certified adult day programs
- Facilities that provide treatment for mentally ill persons
- Residential child care facilities and secured residential treatment centers
Note:The Department of Human Services operates its own medication program(s): 1) Division for Developmental Disabilities, 2) Division for Youth & Family Services, 3) Colorado Department of Youth Corrections

Register for a Class/Instructor Information
Class Registration: Find an instructor from either the schedule or the list of instructors. Please contact the instructor directly to register for a class and for additional information about their classes.
Instructor information: Only approved instructors can teach the class, and must contract with the state on an annual basis. Instructors must be a licensed professional (i.e. LPN, RN, DR, PA.) Persons interested in learning more about the instructor packet, send an email to health.facilities@state.co.us.
