  • Register for a Class/Instructor Information

    Class Registration: Find an instructor from either the schedule or the list of instructors. Please contact the instructor directly to register for a class and for additional information about their classes.

    Instructor Information: Only approved instructors can teach the class, and must contract with the state on an annual basis. Instructors must be a licensed professional (i.e. LPN, RN, DR, PA).

    Instructor Selections: If you are interested in becoming a QMAP Instructor for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014. Please email Val Peak at veldine.peake@state.co.us

    You will need to state your interest in becoming an instructor and must include your name, address, phone number, email address, nursing license number and geographic area you want to teach in. Val will respond to you via email containing the application packet. This completed packet will need to be submitted via US Mail to Val Peake no later than April 30, 2014, with additional required documentation. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Purpose of the Program

    The medication administration program is established in accordance with 25-1.5-301, C.R.S. et seq. The medication administration course is designed to teach and qualify unlicensed staff to safely administer prescribed medications in settings authorized by law. Individuals who successfully complete the course and testing are known as Qualified Medication Administration Persons. QMAPs are not licensed or certified, and are prohibited from making any assessment or evaluation of a client. There is a $55 fee for the Department of Public Health and Environment’s course, written and hands-on practical exam. QMAPs must re-quality every five years.
     

  • Authorized Settings

    Authorized settings for Department of Public Health and Environment course:

    • Assisted living residences
    • State certified adult day programs
    • Facilities that provide treatment for mentally ill persons
    • Residential child care facilities and secured residential treatment centers

    Note:The Department of Human Services operates its own medication program(s): 1) Division for Developmental Disabilities, 2) Division for Youth & Family Services, 3) Colorado Department of Youth Corrections

  • QMAP Verification

    Effective July 1, 2014, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will no longer issue Recognition of Completion documents for persons who have completed the QMAP training and passed the test for a Qualified Medication Administration Person. 

    QMAP online verification

    The search will only return information about QMAPs in good standing and have kept their qualification current. If you need additional information or cannot locate the person you are looking for please contact Val Peake at 303-692-6210 or via email veldine.peake@state.co.us.

  • Regulations and Study Materials
