Meeting Minutes

Colorado’s EMS regional medical directors (RMD) are physicians who serve as a resource to address emergency medical and trauma service issues.  Colorado is divided into 11 Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Advisory Councils (RETACs) and each has a medical director.  The RMD meets quarterly to facilitate peer discussion and the sharing of best practices, in order to create improved levels of service, which have a positive impact on patient safety.  The public is welcome to join the quarterly meetings.  Some of the goals for the meetings are:

  • Facilitate peer communication and cooperation.
  • Provide resources to EMS agency medical directors that will enhance their ability to perform their job functions.
  • Facilitate regional EMS continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Promote regional standardization of protocols for levels of service, and education / training of EMS providers.
  • Facilitate communications between agency medical directors and the state
  • Facilitate communications between agency medical directors and the health care community.
