Recognizing the importance of collaborative SEPs, the department piloted a process that invited nonprofit organizations, local governmental agencies, and eligible regulated entities to submit SEP applications that would benefit the communities and neighborhoods in Denver and Adams counties. This process also provided an opportunity for local government representation during the application evaluation process.
The department encourages SEPs in communities where environmental justice may be an issue; therefore, primary consideration was given to those applications that would benefit northeast Denver and Commerce City neighborhoods and communities.
An informational session was held on April 18, 2012 at the Whittier Community Center in Denver and provided the following presentation: Introduction to SEPs
The SEP Pilot Evaluation Committee was comprised of representatives of the department, the City and County of Denver, Commerce City, and Suncor Energy. The committee recommended 8 applications to receive a total of $1.2 million in SEP funding. The recommendations were approved by the department and Suncor Energy in September 2012.
