Green Government Water



In accordance with Executive Order D2010-006, the department is using EnergyCAP software to track energy and water use. Click on thumbnail below to see a full-sized chart of the department's water use over the past 5 years


	CDPHE has taken the following measures to decrease its water use by 11% from a 2005 baseline: Replaced approximately 2 acres of Kentucky blue grass at the Laboratory Services Building in Lowry with two xeric grasses: blue grama and fine fescue. The project saves over 2.5 million gallons of water each year! As a side benefit, the building operations staff can mow less often, decreasing air emissions.
Urinals at the department’s Cherry Creek Campus were replaced with fixtures which use 0.5 gal/flush instead of 1 gal/flush. Waterless urinals were installed in restrooms at the Laboratory Services Building.

Install low-flow toilets, shower heads and faucets.
Check with your water provider for rebate possibilities on water saving fixtures and appliances.
Fix leaking faucets and toilets. An average of 8% of all home water is wasted through leaks.
Consider xeriscaping your yard to reduce irrigation needs.
Irrigate early in the morning in the late evening to minimize evaporation. Avoid watering pavement.
