Meningococcal Disease

Meningococcal disease is a serious infection caused by a type of bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis. It often causes meningitis (inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord) but it can also cause bloodstream infections, pneumonia, joint infections, and other illness.
